ILAJE, NIGERIA — Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Mahin Ward 1 have announced a proposal to zone the 2027 House of Assembly seat to Axis B, commonly referred to as the Seaside zone.
The leadership reached this decision during a recent stakeholders’ meeting where they reviewed the rotational representation of the constituency. The move is intended to shift the representation to the Seaside zone following the tenure of representatives from other axes.
The leaders cited the historical distribution of the seat since 1999 to support the call for Axis B. According to the records provided by the party leadership, the representation began with Hon. B. F. Ofoesuwa, also known as Sulphuric, who represented Mahin Ward 1 from 1999 to 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy. Hon. Ofoesuwa hailed from Axis A, the Ode-Mahin zone.
Following that period, the seat has moved across various wards and parties:
• 2003 – 2007: Hon. Tunde Ayemo (Etikan Ward, PDP)
• 2007 – 2011: Hon. Otito Atikase (PDP) and Hon. Kunle Odidi (Labour Party), both from Mahin Ward III
• 2011 – 2015: Hon. Gbenga Edema (Mahin Ward II, Labour Party)
• 2015 – 2019: Hon. Malachi Coker (Aheri, PDP)
• 2019 – 2023: Hon. Favour Tomomewo (Mahin Ward IV, APC)
• 2023 – 2027: Hon. Olawunmi Fayemi (Mahin Ward IV, APC)
The party leaders noted that since the last representative from Mahin Ward 1 was from the Ode-Mahin axis, the Seaside zone (Axis B) is the next logical area to produce a candidate for the 2027 election cycle to ensure balanced representation within the ward and the constituency.
The APC leadership in the ward indicated that this early zoning arrangement is aimed at fostering unity and providing a clear direction for party members as preparations for the next general elections begin.
