The political landscape of Ilaje Constituency II ahead of the 2027 elections is gradually taking shape as one of the leading aspirants, Comrade Lebi Ijisemi, has formally stepped aside from the race.
This decision follows wide consultations and a deep reflection on the long-standing zoning arrangement that has guided political representation within the constituency since 1999. It is important to note that Mahin Ward IV, where Comrade Ijisemi hails from, has consistently produced the occupant of the Ilaje Constituency II seat in recent electoral cycles.
The current representative, Hon. Wumi Fayemi, as well as her immediate predecessor, Hon. Favour Tomomewo (who served from 2019 to 2023), are both from Mahintedo in Mahin Ward IV. In the spirit of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness, stakeholders and leaders within the constituency have maintained that the 2027 ticket should rotate to another ward in line with this conventional zoning understanding.
In recognition of this collective position, and in demonstration of statesmanship and commitment to unity, Comrade Lebi Ijisemi has chosen to honour the zoning arrangement by stepping aside, thereby allowing another ward acceptable to leaders and stakeholders across Ilaje Constituency II to produce the next candidate.
We, the people of Mahin Ward IV, reaffirm our respect for this zoning ordinance and our unwavering commitment to peaceful political engagement and collective progress. This decision underscores our belief that fairness and justice remain the bedrock of sustainable political development within the constituency.
Further communication regarding our support for a preferred candidate will be made known in the coming days, with a formal position to be announced
