The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike, effective midnight, Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The union gave the Federal Government a one-month window to address its demands, which include concluding the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement, payment of salary arrears, revitalizing public universities, settlement of promotion arrears, and remittance of outstanding third-party deductions.
The suspension of the strike follows “useful engagements” with government representatives and interventions by the Senate Committees on Tertiary Education and TETFund, and Labour. ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, stated that if the government fails to resolve these issues within the given timeframe, the union reserves the right to resume the strike action without further notice.
