In a counter-move amidst the crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly, fourteen lawmakers, including the Speaker, Right Honourable (Chief) Olamide Oladiji Adesanmi, have passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, dismissing the earlier motion for his removal.
The fourteen pro-Oladiji lawmakers signed and adopted a resolution on Thursday, November 14, 2025, describing the allegations of gross misconduct against the Speaker as baseless and politically motivated. They urged the public to disregard the vote of no confidence that was reportedly issued by a separate group of members the previous day.
The group specifically refuted the claims made by the dissenting members, stating that the Speaker did not divert the sum of \text{₦}50 million and labeled the accusation as a fabrication. They further argued that the allegations concerning the misappropriation of the House’s monthly operational grants were malicious and unfounded.
In defending the Speaker’s position, the lawmakers contested the constitutional basis cited for the attempted impeachment, stressing that the provision of Section 92(4)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, as claimed by the opposing faction, does not exist. They insisted that the proper procedure for the removal of a Speaker is clearly outlined in Order II, Rule 9 of the Standing Orders of the House and cannot be effected through social media statements.
The lawmakers also leveled accusations against some members of the opposing faction, describing them as “perpetual absentees” who rarely attend legislative activities, plenary sessions, or parliamentary meetings because they reside more outside the country.
The resolution stated, “We hereby pass a vote of confidence on Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji Adesanmi and the leadership of the House,” and praised the harmonious relationship between the Speaker and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. They affirmed that the House leadership under Oladiji has been transparent and committed to the development goals of the Ondo State administration, specifically mentioning the EASE agenda, and assured the public of continued accountability in the legislative arm.
The resolution was endorsed by the Speaker and thirteen other lawmakers: Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji Adesanmi – Speaker (Ondo East), Rt. Hon. Gbegudu Ololade James – Okitipupa II, Hon. (Chief) Oshati Olatunji Emmanuel – Ose, Hon. Suleiman Murtala – Akoko South-East, Hon. Ogunwumiju MoyinOlorun Taiwo – Ondo West I, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi – Owo I, Hon.
