The national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has accused some party officials of forging and cloning his signature on an official document sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in relation to the forthcoming national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025. Anyanwu claims the letter, dated August 25, 2025, was neither signed nor authorized by him. He has petitioned the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and INEC, requesting a thorough investigation and prosecution of those behind the alleged forgery.
The controversy has sparked internal divisions within the party, with Anyanwu’s accusations casting doubt on the legitimacy of the convention. A Federal High Court in Abuja has intervened, ordering all parties to maintain the status quo regarding the convention. Justice James Omotosho reaffirmed an earlier order restraining any action on the convention, following a suit filed by aggrieved PDP members who claim the party failed to conduct proper congresses to elect delegates.
Anyanwu’s petition asserts that the forgery of his signature is a “criminal act” that undermines the party’s integrity. The outcome of the court case, scheduled for October 20, will determine the fate of the convention and potentially impact the party’s leadership.
