Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has instructed all commissioners and board members in his administration to wear the “Asiwaju cap,” associated with President Bola Tinubu, during official meetings. The governor warned that any commissioner or board member who fails to wear the cap to Executive Council (Exco) meetings will be turned back.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 19 new commissioners and board members on October 14, 2025, in Benin City, Okpebholo emphasized the importance of loyalty to President Tinubu, whose support he credited for his electoral victory. “I will not forgive any commissioner who is not wearing this cap,” he warned. “In our Exco meetings, if you are not wearing a suit and you are coming to the meeting without this Asiwaju cap, you will go back.”
Okpebholo reminded the appointees that their appointments were based on merit and urged them to view their roles as a call to serve the people, rather than an opportunity for personal enrichment. He also warned against corruption and actions that could undermine the integrity of his administration.

The governor’s directive reflects his administration’s commitment to practical governance and service delivery. “This administration came into office on the promise of practical governance to touch the lives of our people directly,” Okpebholo said. “Our focus is not on propaganda, but on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt the lives of our people directly”
