Chief John Onyebuchi Uche said on the interview with APEXREPORTERS MAGAZINE AND ONLINE NEWS his one of the Founder & President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State, said wherever he is invited on Ndigbo affairs, he will always go and grace the occasions, whether in Lagos State, Igbo land or even outside the country, and these are avenues to support whatever is needed to uphold Igbo culture there.
He made this statement during the Inaugural Ceremony of the Executive of Ohaneze Ndigbo General Association Worldwide, Lagos State.
He also said in Igbo culture, we don’t know how to uphold our culture and change our ways to reflect the times.
According to him “When Ohanaeze Ndigbo was started in Lagos State, I was one of the pioneer members and we were 52 in number then.”
Chief Sir Eric President ohaneze ndigbo general assembly said Igbo likes the classroom handover system rather than carrying the youths along with them as the leaders of tomorrow like the Yorubas and Hausas do.
Our elderly men were supposed to play the advisory roles and back our youths up to grow well, but the elderly men didn’t want to give the youths any gap and this made them to make me their youth patron.”
Chief Uche further said:
“I am here to make things work out with our youths, to value them and do things diligently without injury.”
He also advised that they should not allow Igbo culture to die.
President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide, Barrister Basil Onyeachonam Onuorah, lent his own voice too, he said:
The Lagos State Ohaneze Ndigbo and Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly are simply the same. The old Ohaneze Ndigbo was not registered with the Cooperate Affairs Commission (C.A.C) but the Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly which is the new one, is fully, officially, legally and properly registered, to be the umbrella body of all Ndigbos without fear or discrimination.
Chief sir Eric Eze also expressed that Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly believes in the unity of Nigeria where there is peace, equity, and fairness. Presently the association is putting up mechanism to unite Igbo people.
“Like Christianity says in the book of Isaiah 1:18 that “Come let us reason together” and 1 Corrintians also said …’One cannot be tempted more than what you can handle.”
He said “We are appealing to the federal government of Nigeria to know that the Igbos are people you can get along with ONLY through dialogue, not intimidated or expected to succumb by force. This is the proper time to dialogue, unite the Igbos and not to see Igbos as one who has commited a crime.”
Finally he also said, “Igbos need voices to speak for themselves
Ambassador Chief Tony Obizoba, DG Strategic Planning & Implementation for Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide said:
“We need to visit the root to ensure that the youths are included and intergrated in the Igbo affairs to achieve success.”
He buttress that Ohaneze Ndigbo was inaugurated in 1967 but was not registered till year 2020 because it needed proper legal backing then. The National Executives were registered in June 26 2020.
He stated that the whole Igbos remain one under this body as it has been duly registered in Nigeria and Washington DC.”
Ambassador Obizoba said “What we expect from the Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide now is to refine Igbo people so as to manage the diversity of Ndigbo in Nigeria for progressive nation” he concluded.
